A free, open-source tool that moves your entire photo and video library from Android to your computer — over your own Wi-Fi, byte for byte, with nothing uploaded anywhere.

The facts in one place

  • What it is: a one-click migration tool for Android photo & video libraries. Not a sync service, not a cloud backup.
  • What it is not: no cloud, no account, no telemetry, no ads. It has no iOS app (yet), and it does not do continuous background sync.
  • How it works: the phone runs a small local HTTP server (Go + a foreground service); your PC opens a browser on the same Wi-Fi; you enter a 4-digit PIN; you download one streaming ZIP (ZIP64 for files over 4GB); a SHA-256 integrity check runs locally in the browser.
  • What is preserved: original bytes for JPG/HEIC/HEIF/RAW/DNG/MP4/MOV, EXIF and GPS metadata, and your DCIM/Pictures folder structure.
  • License: GPL-3.0. The full source is on GitHub — don't trust us, verify it yourself.

The project

PhotosMove started as a small open-source project to solve one recurring problem: phones fill up, and getting tens of thousands of photos off them without losing quality is still surprisingly hard. USB/MTP becomes unstable at scale, cloud services compress or need accounts, and most "transfer" apps want software installed on the computer.

The whole product is one honest trade-off: it is a migration tool, not a sync service. You run it when you want your photos moved. If you need continuous sync, tools like Syncthing or Immich are built for that — our comparison table lays out the differences.
